Carmo is a prehardened medium alloyed tool steel suitable for short and medium run tooling in applications where a very high chipping resistance is required. Nimax is a low carbon steel with excellent toughness, machinability and weldability. Nimax also has good polishing and etching properties. This grade provides a minimum risk for unexpected failures due to the high pre-hardened hardness in combination with high toughness.
Nimax ESR is a remelted version of Nimax, keeping the features of Nimax, but with improved cleanliness and homogeneity as a result of the ESR process.
Mirrax 40 is a pre-hardened corrosion resistant mould steel with very good toughness, good machinability and excellent polishing properties. Mirrax 40 is an electroslag remelted (ESR) steel supplied at hardness level approx 40 HRC.
VIDAR 1 ESR

ASSAB 2083 is a corrosion resistant mould steel with high wear resistance and good polishability. This grade is produced through conventional production method and for superior polishability we recommend other products in our Stainless Concept series.
Stavax ESR is the most renowned of the ASSAB plastic mould steels. As the core product in the Stainless Concept series it is characterised as a through hardening corrosion resistant mould steel with excellent polishability. Coolmould, formerly known as ASSAB MM 40, is widely used for injection moulding tools or as cores and inserts in steel moulds. When used in steel mould it effectively cools hot spots, reducing or eliminating the need for cooling channels.

Surface treatment, like PVD coating, can improve the surface hardness without losing the properties of the substrate. With tailored coatings, the hardness, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and tribological properties can be modified to resist different surface failures. As a result, these types of surface treatments are widely used in advanced tooling technology.
Surface Treatment - ABP
ABP is a shot peening process which introduces compressive stress to the surface of material. As the demand for improved tooling economy and productivity increases continuously ASSAB developed ABP. ASSAB tool steels with ABP will provide key benefits like reduced thermal fatigue and heat checking, reduced wear, reduced stress crack. With ABP we expect die life to increase by 30-40%.
